The 2nd Summer School of the Erasmus+ EduGAME Project Successfully Implemented at the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar
Held from 23 to 27 March, the Second Summer School of the Erasmus+ EduGAME project, titled “VR Story Design Challenge,” delivered an intensive, multidisciplinary programme comprising introductory lectures, workshops, mentoring sessions, and team-based project work. The Summer School was organized as a hybrid and international event, bringing together more than 100 students from the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar, along with an additional 50 students from abroad.
Throughout the programme, participants had the opportunity to explore key topics such as serious game design, gender representation in educational games, and the application of artificial intelligence in education. The central component of the Summer School was the EducaThon: VR Story Design Challenge, within which students, working in teams, developed innovative solutions for storytelling in virtual reality. With the support of mentors, participants went through all stages of development, from scenario design and team organization to technical implementation and final project presentations.
EduGAME consortium worked on the development of key academic outputs of the project, including manuals and tools for integrating game-based learning into teaching, as well as the preparation of an interregional e-book on the application of serious games in school education. These outcomes further confirm the project’s commitment to modernising teaching methods and strengthening digital competences.
The programme also featured workshops on contemporary topics such as autonomous AI systems in education and interactive tools such as LexiOrb, as well as lectures dedicated to competency-based learning and the application of technology in fields such as international relations.
In addition to the academic segment, participants had the opportunity to explore the cultural landmarks of Mostar, further fostering intercultural exchange and cooperation among partner institutions.
The Summer School concluded with presentations of student projects, the awarding of prizes to the most successful teams, and a formal certificate ceremony. The final session was dedicated to reflection, summarising the achieved results, and defining the next steps of the EduGAME project.
The results of the Summer School further highlight its success: nearly 20 hours of multimedia content were produced and broadcast via UNMO TV, alongside more than 20 hours of interaction conducted through the MS Teams platform. As part of the EducaThon, 8 VR student projects were successfully developed.
The awarded teams were as follows:
– First place: Team 1 Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar
– Second place (shared): Team 2 Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar and the University of Bihać
– Third place (shared): a team of students from the University of Tirana and the University of Sousse
The successful implementation of this Summer School once again confirmed the capacity of the Dzemal Bijedic University of Mostar to organise international academic events, as well as its commitment to developing innovative approaches in education and strengthening international cooperation.
